Robin Steans
Executive Director, Advance Illinois

Steans heads Advance Illinois, a policy group pushing for education reform across the state. She is also a trustee of the Steans Family Foundation, which focuses its giving in the North Lawndale neighborhood. A former teacher in Chicago and Boston public schools, Steans’ interests include examining the challenges that underserved kids face in schools, particularly with access to college or other post-secondary education. She has three children in CPS schools and is a member of the local school council at Lincoln Elementary. Additionally, Steans is affiliated with the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, North Lawndale College Prep Charter High School, National-Louis University, the DePaul Center for Community-based Service Learning, and the Legacy Charter School in North Lawndale. Steans earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University, a master’s degree in education from Stanford University and a law degree from the University of Chicago.
