Mary McGuire
Recording Secretary, Chicago Teachers Union

McGuire, a former veteran special education and preschool teacher, is recording secretary of the Chicago Teachers Union and serves in various union leadership roles, including liaison officer to the Chicago Teachers Pension Fund, chair of the trustees for the union and a member of oversight committees for the union-run Fresh Start schools and for the Teacher Advancement Program, a pilot initiative on performance pay. McGuire is also vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, secretary to the American Federation of Teachers Progressive Caucus. McGuire earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeastern Illinois University and has completed additional post-graduate coursework in special education, linguistics and counseling at Northeastern, National Louis University and Loyola. She is a parent of three adult children, two of whom work in high schools.
